premenstrual syndrome (PMS)

Pre-menstrual syndrome is a collection of physical and emotional symptoms that arise in the week prior to the start of a woman's menstrual period and interfere with normal functioning.  The most common symptoms of PMS are bloating and breast tenderness.   Mood disturbances the week prior to menstruation are also common.   Pre-menstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD) is a more serious condition with more severe symptoms.
