Summer is in full swing and with it comes fun in the sun. Sometimes, however, we get a little too much exposure and our skin lets us know it with a painful sunburn. In the event that you experience a burn this summer, try these natural home remedies to soothe your skin and get you healed up as quickly as possible so you can get back to having fun.

Apply the Aloe

Aloe Vera gel is a common choice for soothing sunburns. It’s great for cooling, moisturizing and soothing your burn. Keeping an aloe plant in the house can also be handy for other reasons such as improved air quality and a great natural conditioner for your hair.

Cool Off With Tea

Green tea contains tannic acid and theobromine, which helps relieve pain and heal damaged skin when applied topically to your sunburn. Boil water, add a tea bag or two and let them soak for an hour, covered. Then remove the tea bags and let the water cool. Using a cotton pad or soft clean cloth apply the cooled tea to the affected skin. If you don’t have green tea; black tea or earl grey tea will also do the trick.

Get Some Vitamin E

Vitamin E is an antioxidant that can help decrease inflammation caused by sunburn. Try this DIY vitamin E after-sun spray to soothe your uncomfortable sunburn.

Draw a Bath

Having a cool bath with baking soda has been shown to help relieve inflammation and itching. Another option is adding one cup of vinegar to the bath to remove the heat from the burn and soothe the skin. For best results, air-dry after the bath instead of toweling off.
